Day 6 of Everest Base Camp Trek is an acclimatization day in Dingboche, at approximately 4,410 metres. After walking here from Tengboche, you spend a second night at the same altitude before continuing towards Lobuche. It is a chance to slow down, enjoy the mountain setting and see how you feel before going higher.
Dingboche sits among stone-walled fields with views towards some of the Khumbu’s best-known peaks. Rather than spending the whole day inside the lodge, many trekkers take a daytime walk to a higher point and return to Dingboche to sleep. Your guide can help choose a suitable walk based on the weather, trail conditions and your condition that morning.

As you climb higher, your body needs time to adjust to the altitude. Staying a second night in Dingboche gives you a pause in the ascent before the trail continues towards Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. A daytime walk can also let you explore more of the area while returning to the village for the night.
View from the top of Nangkar Tshang
The climb above Dingboche towards Nangkar Tshang is a popular acclimatization walk. The trail gains height quickly, so take frequent pauses and let your guide set a sensible turnaround point. You do not need to reach the top to benefit from the walk or enjoy the scenery.
As you climb, Dingboche and its fields spread out below. In clear weather, you can see across the surrounding valleys towards peaks including Ama Dablam, Tawache and Cholatse. After enjoying the views, descend to Dingboche for lunch or a relaxed afternoon at the lodge.
Another option is to follow the valley towards Chhukung. This walk offers a different perspective on the high mountain landscape, with views towards Island Peak and the surrounding ridges when the weather is clear.
Your guide may suggest walking part of the way or continuing to Chhukung, depending on the group’s energy and the day’s conditions. You then return to Dingboche to spend the night.
Mt. Ama Dablam
Back in the village, there is time to rest, look through your photographs or enjoy tea at a lodge or café. Stone houses, prayer flags and cultivated fields make Dingboche interesting to explore at an easy pace. If you would like to visit a monastery or photograph local people, ask your guide about access and respectful etiquette.
The mountain views can change throughout the day as clouds move through the valleys. A clear evening may bring beautiful light to the peaks, but the acclimatization day remains worthwhile whatever the visibility.

Before dinner, check your equipment for the walk towards Lobuche. Keep warm layers and water accessible, and discuss the next day’s route and your condition with your guide. The aim today is to finish feeling ready for the next stage of the trek.
Dingboche is more than a pause on the itinerary. It gives you time to experience the landscape around the village while making a careful decision about continuing higher.
