Trip Itinerary

Your Bhutan adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Paro. As you soar above the clouds, enjoy stunning views of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our friendly Bhutanese guide will greet you with a warm welcome. After a short briefing, you'll take a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Thimphu, the charming capital of Bhutan. Once checked into your hotel, you’ll have time to relax and unwind. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk around Thimphu town to soak in the atmosphere and local culture.

Today is dedicated to exploring the cultural heart of Bhutan—Thimphu. You'll start with a visit to the iconic Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan. Then head to the giant Buddha Dordenma statue, offering panoramic views of the city. Next, explore Bhutan’s history and heritage at the National Library and Folk Heritage Museum. A visit to the magnificent Tashichho Dzong, Bhutan’s administrative and religious center, completes your cultural tour. You’ll also get a chance to browse local crafts and maybe enjoy an optional cultural show in the evening. Overnight in Thimphu.

After breakfast, we head back to Paro, retracing our path through lush valleys and peaceful countryside. Once in Paro, explore Rinpung Dzong—an imposing fortress with intricate Bhutanese architecture. Then visit the National Museum housed in the Ta Dzong watchtower. In the afternoon, discover the sacred Kyichu Lhakhang Temple, one of Bhutan’s oldest and holiest shrines. For a relaxing experience, you may opt for a traditional hot stone bath in the evening. Settle in for the night at a cozy hotel in Paro.

Today is the highlight of your Bhutan journey—a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest. This sacred temple complex is perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters above sea level. The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours round trip, but every step is worth it for the incredible views and spiritual vibe. Midway, you'll stop at a cafeteria that offers stunning views of the monastery, perfect for rest and lunch. After descending, head back to your hotel in Paro. In the evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner featuring Bhutanese cuisine. Overnight in Paro.

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Paro Airport for your return flight to Kathmandu. As your Glimpse of Bhutan Tour comes to an end, you’ll carry home unforgettable memories of Bhutan’s peace, beauty, and hospitality.

Useful Info

Visa Process

Traveling to Bhutan requires all international tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian citizens) to obtain a visa in advance.

  • The visa application is handled by your tour operator (like us) once your trip is booked.
  • You must provide a valid passport (with at least 6 months of validity) and a confirmed itinerary.
  • Once approved, your visa will be issued along with your Bhutan travel clearance, which must be presented at immigration upon arrival.

Note: Independent travel is not allowed in Bhutan. You must book your trip through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or its international partners.

Bhutan Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)

To maintain Bhutan’s unique approach to tourism and environmental sustainability, the government charges a $100 USD per person per day SDF.

  • This fee supports education, healthcare, environmental protection, and cultural preservation.
  • It’s already included in our package pricing, so you don’t have to pay anything separately.

Currency and Payment

The local currency in Bhutan is the Ngultrum (BTN), which is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR).

  • Indian Rupees (except ₹2,000 notes) are also accepted widely.
  • Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and stores, but may not work reliably outside cities.
  • ATMs are available in towns like Thimphu and Paro, but may not always support foreign cards.

Recommended Tips:

  • Carry some local cash for small purchases.
  • Check with your bank about international withdrawal options.

Mobile & Internet Connectivity

While Bhutan offers a serene escape from the digital world, connectivity is available in most urban and tourist areas:

  • You can buy a local SIM card upon arrival with a passport copy. Operators like B-Mobile and TashiCell are commonly used.
  • WiFi is available in most hotels and restaurants, but may be slower in rural areas or during peak hours.
  • Some remote trekking areas may not have mobile coverage, so plan accordingly.

Cultural Etiquette

Bhutan is a deeply spiritual country rooted in Buddhist traditions, so respecting local customs is essential.

Do’s and Don’ts:

  • Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples, dzongs, or religious events (cover arms and legs).
  • Remove shoes and hats before entering sacred sites.
  • Avoid loud talking, touching statues, or pointing feet toward shrines or monks.
  • Do not take photos inside monasteries unless permitted.
  • Being respectful not only enriches your experience but also earns the appreciation of the Bhutanese people.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended.

Given the country’s mountainous terrain and limited access to healthcare in remote areas, insurance helps cover:

  • Medical emergencies and evacuations
  • Trip cancellations or delays
  • Baggage loss or theft
  • Trekking-related incidents

Be sure to choose a policy that includes high-altitude trekking if your itinerary involves adventure routes.

Best Seasons to Visit Bhutan

Choosing the right time to visit Bhutan enhances your trip with clear views, vibrant experiences, and pleasant weather. The ideal times to travel are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November).

Spring (March to May)

  • Spring is Bhutan’s most colorful season and ideal for nature lovers.

What to expect:

  • Warm days and cool nights
  • Blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, and alpine flowers
  • Green valleys and snowcapped mountain views
  • Popular events: Paro Tsechu, one of the largest cultural festivals in Bhutan

Autumn (September to November)

  • Autumn offers the clearest skies and most stable weather conditions.

What to expect:

  • Crisp air and minimal rain
  • Spectacular views of the Himalayan range
  • Ideal trekking weather with dry trails
  • Popular events: Thimphu Tshechu and Jambay Lhakhang Drup (cultural and religious festivals)

When to Avoid Traveling to Bhutan

While Bhutan is beautiful year-round, some seasons pose travel challenges.

Monsoon Season (June to August)

  • Heavy rainfall can cause landslides, slippery roads, and trail closures
  • Low visibility may affect sightseeing and photography
  • Best avoided if you plan to trek or want clear mountain views

Winter (December to February)

  • Cold weather, especially in higher altitudes
  • Some mountain passes and routes may be inaccessible due to snow
  • Suitable for cultural tours in cities like Thimphu or Paro, but less ideal for trekking

Final Travel Tips:

  • Pack layered clothing for temperature variations.
  • Always carry a copy of your travel documents and passport.
  • Bring personal medications—pharmacies are limited in rural areas.
  • Respect local traditions and photography rules.
