Trip FAQ's
Nepal's Bull Fighting Festival, also known as "Gai Jatra" or "Gaikhure" in Nuwakot, is a unique cultural event where bulls are pitted against each other—not to the death but as a display of strength and local tradition. It’s rooted in Magar and Tamang communities.
The event takes place annually in Taruka village, Nuwakot District, typically during January, around Maghe Sankranti (Nepali mid-winter festival). Dates vary slightly by the Nepali lunar calendar.
Travelers can expect to witness a vibrant local gathering, enjoy folk music, traditional food, and observe rituals that reflect the agricultural roots and cultural pride of the region.
The tour typically lasts 2 to 3 days, including transport from Kathmandu, guided village visit, festival viewing, and homestay or local guesthouse accommodation with meals.
Yes, it’s perfect for travelers interested in ethnic culture, festivals, and rural experiences. The setting is peaceful, and the event is community-focused—making it suitable for families and respectful cultural tourism.
You can book the tour through Vista Treks. It's recommended to book in advance, as this is a once-a-year event, and local accommodations may be limited during the festival.
