Trip Overview
Vista Trek’s 12-day Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek combines the classic walk through the Khumbu with selected comfortable lodges and a helicopter return from Gorak Shep to Lukla. You trek to Everest Base Camp on foot, visit the Kala Patthar viewpoint when conditions permit, and avoid retracing several days of trail on the way back.
The journey starts in Kathmandu and follows the Dudh Koshi valley from Lukla to Phakding and Namche Bazaar. As you travel higher, forest paths give way to open valleys, stone-walled fields and the rocky landscape around the Khumbu Glacier. Along the way, you have opportunities to experience Sherpa communities, see Tengboche Monastery and enjoy views of peaks such as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse and Pumori when the weather is clear.
Two acclimatization days are built into the route: one in Namche Bazaar and another in Dingboche. These days give you time to explore on foot while spending a second night at the same altitude. Your guide will help choose suitable walks and adjust the daily pace according to the group’s condition.
After overnighting in Lobuche, you continue to Gorak Shep and walk to Everest Base Camp. This is the closest you come on the trek to the Khumbu Glacier’s expedition setting. The following morning, the optional early climb to Kala Patthar offers the more open view of Everest that many trekkers hope to photograph. You then return to Gorak Shep for the helicopter flight to Lukla, subject to weather and operational clearance.
“Luxury” on this trek means greater comfort and attentive arrangements where the region allows it. We select suitable lodges along the route, but facilities become simpler at higher elevations. In particular, private bathrooms, hot showers, heating and reliable charging cannot be promised in every village. The mountain setting and high-altitude walking remain central to the experience.
Why choose this 12-day trek?
Reach Everest Base Camp on foot
You follow the established trekking route through the Khumbu rather than flying directly to Base Camp. This gives you time to experience the villages and changing landscape that make the journey memorable.
Return by helicopter
The planned helicopter flight from Gorak Shep to Lukla reduces the walking days needed for the return. The next day, you take a flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. The included helicopter sector is Gorak Shep–Lukla, not Gorak Shep–Kathmandu.
Stay in selected lodges
Vista Trek arranges selected lodging suited to each stage of the route. More comfortable rooms may be available in lower villages; options around Lobuche and Gorak Shep are limited and more basic. Specific lodges and room facilities are confirmed according to availability.
Trek with local support
A government-licensed guide accompanies the trek and porters help carry the main trekking luggage. Your guide manages the daily route, coordinates lodges and meals, and helps assess how the group is coping with the altitude.
List of Luxury Lodge Trek
In recent days, the number of comfortable guesthouses in the Everest region has been increasing. Specifically, in Lukla, Phakding, and Namche, numerous guesthouses now offer luxurious stays amidst majestic mountains. Below is the list of guesthouses that we utilize during the Everest Base Camp Luxury Lodge Trek:
- Lukla: Yeti Mountain Home
- Phakding: Yeti Mountain Home
- Namche: Panorama Lodge
- Deboche: Rivendell Lodge or Himalayan Culture Home
- Dingboche: Good Luck Lodge or Stupa Inn
- Lobuche: Oxygen Inn or Pyramid Hotel
- Gorakshep: While there are no proper luxury lodges built in Gorakshep, you can expect the best possible accommodation during your stay.
Note: The above itinerary and services can be customized according to your interests and available budget. If you are on a tight budget, you may consider opting for our standard Everest Base Camp Trek. Feel free to contact us to discuss and customize a plan that suits your preferences and budget.

Useful Info
Flights and itinerary flexibility
Flights to and from Lukla, as well as the Gorak Shep–Lukla helicopter flight, depend on weather, visibility and operational decisions. Delays can occur even in popular trekking seasons. We recommend allowing spare time in Nepal before an international departure.
If a flight cannot operate as planned, Vista Trek will discuss the available alternatives with you. Your booking confirmation should state how any additional accommodation, meals, alternative transport or extra helicopter costs would be handled.
Accommodation on the luxury Everest Base Camp trek
Kathmandu accommodation is provided for two nights at the Five Star Hotel ( Yak and Yeti or Similar Standard Hotel) . During the trek, Vista Trek selects suitable lodges along the route, balancing comfort, location and availability.
Lodges in Lukla, Phakding and Namche generally offer more choice than those higher on the trail. From Dingboche onwards, rooms and facilities become simpler. Gorak Shep has particularly limited accommodation because of its altitude and remote location. Your exact lodges may change if a preferred property is full or unable to operate.
Meals during the trek
Breakfast, lunch and dinner during the trekking portion are included under the current package description. Lodge menus commonly offer dal bhat, soups, noodles, potatoes, eggs, pancakes and other dishes. Choices can become more limited higher up, and individual lodges may have different menus.
Tell Vista Trek in advance if you have a dietary requirement. Your guide can communicate it to lodges, although specific ingredients and preparation arrangements cannot be guaranteed in every remote village.
Fitness, altitude and preparation
This trek is suitable for people who can walk for several hours on consecutive days and are prepared for steep climbs, uneven paths and cold conditions. A helicopter return shortens the journey, but it does not reduce the effort needed to trek to Base Camp or the altitude reached on the walking route.
Train with regular walks or hikes before departure, ideally including hills or stairs while carrying the daypack you expect to use. During the trek, follow your guide’s pace and tell them promptly about any symptoms or concerns. The planned acclimatization days support a more gradual ascent, but nobody can guarantee that a trekker will not develop altitude illness.
Trekking Staff
A licensed guide accompanies you from Kathmandu until your return to Kathmandu. For groups of more than eight trekkers, we provide two guides. Porters join the team in Lukla. One porter is provided for every two trekkers and carries a shared duffel bag weighing up to 20 kg.
Recommended Equipment
Bring well-fitting trekking boots, warm layers, a down jacket, thermal underwear, gloves, a warm hat, waterproof outerwear and a daypack for your water, valuables and daily essentials. You will also need sunglasses, sun protection, a water bottle, a headlamp, personal medication and toiletries.
A warm sleeping bag is important for the higher villages. Please see our trekking equipment list for more details, and ask us which items we can provide before you pack.
Temperature and Clothing
Temperatures vary considerably by season, altitude and time of day. Lower sections of the trek can feel warm in the sunshine, while mornings, evenings and higher villages can be very cold. Around Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp, winter temperatures may fall well below freezing.
Most lodge bedrooms are not heated. Pack clothing you can layer as conditions change, along with a warm sleeping bag suitable for your travel season.

Trip FAQ's
The trip lasts 12 days from arrival to departure in Kathmandu. You trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, then return from Gorak Shep to Lukla by helicopter before flying to Kathmandu the following day.
The package includes selected comfortable lodges, meals during the trek, guide and porter support, and a helicopter return that shortens the journey. Accommodation becomes simpler at higher elevations, so “luxury” does not mean hotel-style facilities at every overnight stop.
No. The package includes a helicopter flight from Gorak Shep to Lukla. You stay overnight in Lukla and take a separate flight to Kathmandu on Day 11, subject to weather conditions. If you prefer to fly directly to Kathmandu by helicopter, we can arrange this as a customized option, subject to availability and an additional cost.
Yes. You follow the trekking trail from Lukla to Everest Base Camp on foot. On Day 9, you walk from Lobuche to Gorak Shep, visit Base Camp and return to Gorak Shep for the night.
The itinerary plans an early hike to Kala Patthar on Day 10 before the helicopter flight. The hike depends on the weather, available time and how you feel at altitude. Your guide will advise whether to proceed or turn back.
The Kala Patthar viewpoint is approximately 5,550 metres, depending on the point reached. Everest Base Camp is commonly listed at approximately 5,364 metres.
Yes. You spend two nights in Namche Bazaar and two nights in Dingboche. On the second day at each location, your guide may suggest a suitable daytime walk before you return to sleep at the same village.
All lodges on this itinerary offer a private bathroom and hot shower, except in Gorak Shep. As these facilities are not available there, we will arrange the best available room for your stay.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included during the trek. Meals in Kathmandu are not included unless your booking confirmation specifically lists one. Let us know about dietary requirements before departure.
Previous experience is helpful, but technical climbing skills are not required. You should be comfortable walking for several hours on consecutive days over uneven ground. Training with hikes, hills or stairs before your trip will help you prepare.
Tell your guide immediately, even if your symptoms seem mild. Your guide will assess the situation and help arrange appropriate changes to the walking plan or medical assistance. Reaching Base Camp or Kala Patthar should never take priority over your health.
Flights in the Everest region depend on weather, visibility and operational conditions. A delay may change the itinerary, so we recommend allowing spare time before your international departure. Vista Trek will discuss available alternatives and any additional costs according to your confirmed booking terms.
Yes. Arrange insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical treatment and emergency helicopter evacuation to at least the maximum altitude of your trip. Check the policy’s altitude limit and exclusions before travelling.
Carry a small daypack with water, warm and waterproof layers, sun protection, personal medication and your valuables. Your porter carries the main trekking bag according to the luggage allowance confirmed for your booking.
