Trip Overview

Langtang Valley lies in the Himalayan region to the north of Kathmandu. This valley trek is one of the closest ones to the valley and a fairly easy trekking adventure. Langtang Valley Trek takes you to the beautiful Langtang Valley which is also known as the Valley of Glaciers. Also, the trip enjoys the beautiful display of the Langtang Himalayas. Finally, the trek also offers a peek into the life of the Tibetan and Tamang communities in the region.

The remarkable 10-day trip begins from Kathmandu and heads north towards Sybrubensi. It is also the gateway to the trips in the Langtang region. As the trekkers cross the Bhote Koshi River, they will follow the Langtang River for the entire trek. You will follow the trail east towards Rimche and continue to Lama Hotel through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests. Then, the trek crosses Ghodatabela and reaches Chyamki. Likewise, the trekking trail also crosses several Tamang villages before entering the Tibetan influenced region.

Passing the Langtang Village, you enter the arid landscapes and reach Kyanjin Gompa. The monastery is one of the biggest in the region and is known to house ancient Tibetan Buddhist history. Also, the monastery and the nearby areas serve as a viewpoint to relish the view of mountains including Langtang Lirung (7227m). Moreover, a hike to the top of the nearby peaks like Tserko Ri (4984m) or Kyanjin Ri (4773m) also reveals a chain of mountains in Langtang and Dorje Lakpa ranges. Then, the trek begins to make its return and retraces its step through the Langtang National Park. You will trek further south from Sybrubensi and reach Dhunche. Finally, a drive back to Kathmandu will bring the trip to a close.

Best time to do Langtang Valley Trek

Spring and autumn seasons are the ideal times for the trek. Also, the trails are easier compared to other Himalayan trips in Nepal. So, trekkers of average fitness can also do the trek.

Note:  Other popular treks in Langtang region are Tamang Heritage TrekGosaikunda helambu trek and Helambu Trek.

Trip Itinerary

  • Upon arrival at Tribhuwan Intl Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Vista Trek waiting, well in time, to receive you, shall welcome you to this land of the towering Himalayas. Once reaching your hotel in a car from the airport, all you need to do is check in and enjoy the refreshment served.
  • We then visit the Vista Trek office for discussion on trekking, introduction to the guide and porter and settlement of dues if any. Since you often still have some time left for a walk around Thamel, you can do so if you please.

  • We head off to Syaprubeshi on a local deluxe bus early morning. This almost 6-7-hour journey starts out of Kathmandu through a beautiful hilly forest area on PasangLhamu Highway to the North-West. Stopping for breakfast and lunch on the way, the ride comes to its end once we reach Syaprubeshi. With the Botekoshi River flowing from the North-West to the South-East, the settlement sits on the confluence of Bhotekoshi River and Langtang River and now has spread on all three open spaces. The place is increasingly becoming a tourist as well as an economic hub in the area.
  • We spend our night here.

  • After breakfast, we walk for around three hours to Bamboo. The route first crosses BhoteKoshi, then almost immediately LangtangKhola. Along the banks of the latter, the relatively flat trail with short uphills at places reaches Bamboo, with a few teahouses next to the River.
  • After lunch, the way up to Rimché is mostly an exhausting uphill all the way. Rimché, with two guest houses, is our stopover for the night and also offers a view of the Ganesh HImal.

  • After breakfast, we walk for nearly three and a half hours to GhodaTabela for lunch. The first ten minutesbrings us to Lama Hotel. From here on, it’s mostly a gradual uphill with some steep climbs. When walking through this part of the trail, what should attract many is the change in vegetation as we walk towards the destination. With the Langtang River flowing just a minute or two to the right all the way, we start the walk through a Subtropical forest that changes to Temperate to Sub-alpine and then to bushes with sporadic trees, indicating that the tree line in this part of the Himalayas is not very far. GhodaTabela, with two teahouses, is where we stop for lunch.
  • After lunch, we start our trek up a gradual uphill, with the whole Langtang Range including LangtangHimal and LangtangLirung, the highest in the Range standing tall at 7,245 metres, to the front-left, the Naya Kang Peak to the front-right,  GosaikundaHimal to the right, LangtangHimal to the left, towards the mouth of the LangtangKhola. Chyamki, with three guest houses operating currently, is our stopover for the night.

  • Our walk to KenjinGompa, after breakfast, is on a gradual uphill that continues till the end and with the direction of the LangtangKhola gradually moving from the front-left to the back-left. KyanjinGompa, a village in the valley surrounded by the soaring Himalayas, is a place where LangtangKhola, with its origins from the Langtang Glacier, flows from its two sides. This village, with around twenty households, is where we stop for our lunch, dinner and the night. The remaining time today can be spent exploring the valley.

  • After an early breakfast, we pack our lunch and head off to Tsergori. Up a steep uphill for almost five hours, the tired legs, now that they can rest for the next half an hour, don’t seem to mind the excitement the eyes receive once atop the vantage point. On display, the 3600 view, after all, has Yala Peak, Morimoto Peak, Kyunggari as well as Mt SishaPangba in Tibet to the North, Mt Ganchenpo, Mt Urkinmang and Mt DorjeLakpa to the East, PangenDopku Peak and Naya Kang Peak to the South and LangtangLirung, Mt Kinshung and Mt Yubra as well as Langtang Glacier and KyanjinGompa Village to the West.
  • After spending some time, we walk back downhill to KyanjinGompa for the night.

  • After breakfast, we retrace our steps back, downhill mostly this time around, for roughly four hours to GodaTabela for lunch.
  • We continue our walk after lunch. After another two hours, we come to Rimche for the night.

  • After breakfast, we start our walk to Sherpa Gaon. Around half an hour before Sherpa Gaon, the narrow trail, carved along a hillside, asks for exercising caution. To the right is the slopes of the same hill with the hilltop not visible. The left, however, is not as safe. Drawn by this inviting grassy slope- green, yellow or brown, the wish to walk on and off the trail would be unwise since skillfully disguising the danger of a slip that could land anyone directly in Langtang River roughly 700 metres below is a real possibility. With Mt Manaslu and Ganesh Himal to the South East and some peaks in Tibet to the North-East, we have our lunch in Sherpa Gaon.
  • After leaving Sherpa Gaon, we reach Syphrubeshi on a steep downhill in the next two hours or so. We spend the night here.

  • We head off to Kathmandu on a local deluxe bus early morning. This almost seven-hour journey comes to its stop in Kathmandu with guaranteed two stops for breakfast and lunch.
  • Back in Kathmandu, and only your WILL shall dictate your involvement or indulgence as you may please since our arrival is in the afternoon. In the evening, however, please allow us the pleasure of your company during the fare-well dinner organized by Vista Trek.
  • Spend the night in a hotel.

  • If you have a morning flight, we leave for Tribhuwan Intl Airport early morning in a car arranged by the office.
  • If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, only your WILL shall dictate your involvement or indulgence as you may please before leaving for Tribhuwan Intl Airport in the vehicle.
