Mera Peak climbing is one of the famous trekking peak climbing in Nepal. This Peak Climbing takes you to the summit of Mera Peak that has an altitude of 6,461m(21,90ft) which is the highest trekking peak in Nepal. It is situated on the edge of the famous Khumbu valley.  Five mountain peaks above 8000m peaks are visible from the summit including Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. Choose Best season

Climbing in Mera peak is only comfortable when you do the climb in the right season. Climbing in Winter and summer can be a bit riskier due to high snowfall and heavy rainfall. However, you can climb in those seasons but you need to be ready for unpredictable conditions. Late April, May, September, and October are the best months for climbing the peak. If you trek in these months you can enjoy your trekking with more natural beauty. In these months, you will have a clear blue sky with stunning views of mountains, the forest will be full of beautiful red rhododendrons, you can also get an opportunity to know about the local culture and traditions.

Prepare for climbing

In the Mera Peak Climbing, you will be climbing above 6400m above sea level. So, for this, you need to take special skills in handling ice axes and other climbing gear. You need to know this equipment and practice using them properly. You also need to do physical and mental exercise to increase the strength and calmness which is required while climbing Mera Peak. Similarly, regular climbing of hills can increase your stamina and help to adjust your health at high altitudes.

Prepare for camping

You need to stay outdoors in a tent for one or two days while doing Mera Peak climbing. Sleeping in camping tents needs practice. While climbing Mera Peak, the weather can vary drastically, be prepared to stay in warm, cold, windy places over snow. Similarly, be comfortable to set tents in high places, maintain good levels of hygiene in a camping environment. 

Take comfortable clothes

The weather while climbing Mera Peak isn’t 100% guaranteed to be stable. so be prepared for the possible climates. Choose the clothes that can work up to -30 degrees centigrade. The clothes that are warm and comfortable while climbing the peak need to be chosen. Sometimes they will also have limited guiding or climbing skills with the lack of proper knowledge of managing in high altitudes. Therefore, you need to make sure you have good communication with Sherpa, who is well versed in fixing ropes, manage training in Khare, pace the team and bring your safety up and down.

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to gear, so you need to choose the gear and equipment wisely. the climate in this region will be very cold, so you need to make sure that you have the right gear so that you can have your journey less difficult.

Physical preparation

 Mera Peak climbing is very strenuous with lots of ups and downs. Since it’s the highest trekking peak, you need more strength than or trekking destinations. Above 5500m, nothing can survive; your digestive system, as well as body, starts to shut down. So you need to adapt enough to the low levels of oxygen, but you need the right acclimatization schedule and to do the right training. Except for that, you need to increase your stamina and strength through a physical exercise like jogging, swimming, gyming, hiking, weight lifting, and many more. 

Make sure you pick the right itinerary

A good itinerary is that which provides enough time for acclimatization before heading up to high camp at 5800m and onto the summit at 6476m. Lots of people slip to Mera Peak Base camp to save some money which is really a bad idea. You can skip some days, however, it is not always going to be the best decision for your safety. Therefore, the right itinerary needs to be picked which provides time for acclimatization, and doesn’t skip any days to enjoy the beauty of mountains and glaciers. 

Choose the best trekking and climbing boots

Footwear is what leads to achievement. Having the wrong footwear could ruin your trip. Therefore, you need to take both trekking boots and mountaineering boots for a Mera Peak ascent. They need to be worn and practiced before your journey to be sure if it is comfortable to wear or not.

Necessary documents

You can only get the permit of Mera peak only through a registered and licensed trekking. You need to get a Local Area Permit at Lukla on Arrival which costs around $20. Makalu Barun National Park entry permit costs Rs 1500 to SAARC national citizens and Rs 3000 to other country nationals. Similarly, you need to take Mera Peak Climbing cost which is different from season to season and they are:

June to August: $70

March to May:$250

September to November:$125

December to February: $70
