Trip Overview

Just 10 KM away from Kathmandu, Khokana and Bungmati, beautiful medieval Newari town, famous for chilly and mustard oil production are the major attraction of this tour. Almost in every house hanging red chilly garlands from the top floor to the ground floor , making very colorful specially in October and November.

Patan is another popular ancient town with over 1200 ancient monuments, is best place to observe wood and stone carvings, metal statues, ornate architecture, as well as several Hindu and Buddhist temples.

Trip Itinerary

  • After breakfast , we start our tour with 45 minutes drive to Khokana. Khokana is a delightful Newari town which is famous for daily lifestyle of local people. While walking through the village, immidiately catch our eyes as we mattress makerrs stuffing cases with cotton, women spinning wool and winnowing rice, farmers baling straw , kids are running around elderly are having rest in public areas. Shekala Mai Temple also know as Rudrayeni temple is also an attraction of Khokana.
  • After Khokana, just a short drive will bring us in  Bungmati Village. A classical medieval Newari village, famous for woodcarving, Newari culture and farmers life. This village contains Rato Machhendranath Temple " The patron god of Patan" , Bhairab Temple and Karyabinayek Temple.
  • After enjoying Bungmati Village drive to another ancient town Patan Durbar Square. The ancient city Patan is also known as Lalitpur, which literally means city of beauty. The city lies 5 km to the south of Katmandu. The whole complex of Durbar Square consists of different sections of ancient palace like Sundari Chowk (beautiful court yard) where exquisite windows and door carving are seen and the Tushahity (Royal Bath) a master piece of stone carvings and others are Mul Chowk (main court yard), Keshav Narayan Chowk. In front of the palace in the main square there is a statue of King Narendra Malla sitting on the stone pillar. Next to the pillar there is a famous Krishna Mandir temple with 21 pinnacles built all in stone. This is said to be a Shikhara architect from India. Rest you will see several pagoda style temples like temple of Bhimsen, and the public bath, dragon headed spout and the water runs 24 hours. There are also many other famous Buddhist temple like Hiranya Verna Maha Vihar (the Golden temple) and Maha Bouddha with ten thousands Buddha's images. Most of the people of Patan city are Buddhists. Patan is also very famous in its art work. There are many fine craftsmen in Patan who produce bronze/brass art work in different images/statues of Hindu/Buddhist Gods and Goddesses, silver jewelleries, wood carvings.  Most of the handicrafts you see in the local shops of Katmandu valley are produced in Patan.
  • Patan has also several good restaurants where one can enjoy good food with roof top view. At the end drive back to Hotel and finish the tour.
