Trip Overview

Dhulikhel, Namobudhha and Panauti are situated to the east and around 50 KM away from Kathmandu. Scenic drive from Kathmandu through Araniko highway reach Sanga where giant statue of Lord Shiva observing the valley.Sacred Buddhist site of Namobudhha to understand ancient Buddhism and old Newari town of Dhulikhel and Panauty to explore traditional art and architecture of Hinduism .

Trip Itinerary

Start our tour with pleasant drive to Dhulikhel. After Dhulikhel, 6/7 Kilometre of dirt road driving will bring us in Namobudhha. At the top of hill, magnifiscient Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery will catch eyes immidiately . A Tibetan Buddhhist temple with sprawling monastic complex which was officially open for the tourist in 2008. Namobudhha is one of the three most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites along with Boudhanath and Swoyambhunath. An inspiring legend about the Budhha, makes this site a great holy place for Buddhist people. According to the legend, Lord Budhha in his previous life was a prince, encountered an ill tigress while walking in the forest, that was close to death from starvation and unable to feed her cubs . With his compassion act, lord Budhha allowed to consue himself to starving tigress family. He then transported to the higher realms of existance with this did. In a small cave up to the forested path, just left of the stupa , a marble tablet depicts all the event.
After spending some in Namobudhha, we drive all the back to Dhulikhe. A popular place to observe Himalayan range to the north, Dhulikhel is also popular for old Newari Culture, art and artitecture. The town contains Shiva Temple, Hari Siddhi Temple , Visnu Temple and Kali Temple . In a clear day, we can observe Langtang in the west , follwed by huge bulk of Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishanker and Number Himal to the east.
After spending some time in Dhulikhel , we then drive back to Banepa and drive 7 kilometre south to another ancient newari town Panauti. Once a major trading center with its own royal palace in the past, Panauti is now famous for Indreshowr Mahadev Temple , Unmatta Bhairab temple , Brahmayani Temple and Krishna Narayen Temple. A confluence of Roshi khola, Pungamati Khola and an invisible Padmabati khola made this town particularly sacred.
Drive back to Kathmandu. End the trip.
